An Interactive Dive into 2024 Outlooks
The end of every year fills our inboxes with forecasts and outlooks from banks and research groups. While this is notable in December, information overload isn’t attuned to seasonal cycles! Our defense system is to set up elaborate mental and physical filters where we default to a historical favorite (usually reinforcing our biases!) or accidentally screen out interesting perspectives.
As a thought leader in your market, how do you create a differentiated perspective on the same material that everyone else is seeing?
Our illustrative approach, presented below, uses a system of machine-driven scoring and interactive visualization. Firstly, we scored key topic sentiment in outlooks from 10 global institutions to provide areas of similarity and difference. Once these outlook drivers are identified, interactive visualization allows diving deeper into each area to generate more nuanced discussions.
What did we find?
(Sentiment scale is +/- 10)
The general sentiment for 2024 is almost exactly neutral at +0.3
56% of topics have a positive sentiment
The average sentiment score of these topics is +4.5
This contrasts with 2023’s strongly negative outlooks
Global and US economic forecasts vary widely
Forecasts on China’s economic growth have a narrower spread
Geopolitics is presented as a meaningfully negative factor
Artificial intelligence and climate change receive scant attention in these higher level reports despite AI breakthroughs and sustained policy attention on energy transition
